This workshop will be based in the style Jenni teaches in her contemporary jazz classes -- a mixture of the vocabulary and musicality of Jazz dance with the shapes and technique of Modern dance. In addition to learning and manipulating movement phrases, students will explore partnering, floor work, and performance quality. A warm-up will not be taught in the sessions, so students should take a technique class or another discipline before each workshop session. Gain insight to the choreographic process, bond with your fellow students, and discover a new perspective of your dancing, through performance. No matter your level or experience in dance, you will improve your inner dancer, movement, and expression.
Participants will have the opportunity to perform during the lunch hour at San Francisco’s Jewels in the Square. Union Square, San Francisco -- October 20, 2010
Jenni Bregman was born and raised in Oregon, where she was trained in Jazz, Modern, Ballet, Hip-Hop, and Theatre. She has been training, performing, and choreographing in the San Francisco Bay Area for nine years. She is a member of the Passion Flower Project and the fusion dance company, Printz Dance Project, which performs locally and nationally.

You will learn the very basics of ballet in a highly personalized and non-intimidating atmosphere. The basic stance, body placement, musicality, and basic terminology will be a particular emphasis in the course. In addition, you will learn arm movements (port de bras) and strengthening exercises, specific to ballet. Each session will slowly build on the last to give you a firm foundation for continuing to improve your ballet. As a result, you will immediately see your posture, coordination improve, and you’ll gain a sense of poise and grace.
Liezl Austria performed as a dancer in the United States and Europe for more than 19 years and has been teaching for 9 years. She recently completed an advanced course in teaching the Vaganova (Russian-style) Syllabus. She has a passion for bringing ballet to the beginning student.
