Mixed-Level Graham Technique
with David Chase
Mondays 7:30 - 9:00 PM
Wednesdays 6:00 - 7:30 PM
Saturday 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM
Over 75 years ago, a devotee and ardent follower of East Indian philosophy and yoga, Martha Graham, revolutionized dance by creating a technique based on a series of yoga-based movements on the floor, melding the inner power and stillness of the breath cycle with classical ballet. Her intent was "to chart the graph of the human heart"- she, Stravinsky and Picasso, are considered the three giants of 20th century arts.

These are open classes, designed for those dancers who may never have danced Graham as well as those who are familiar with it.

There is no other dance technique that gives a dancer such weight, power, and core strength. Besides training thousands of dancers at her school, Miss Graham taught many famous actors at New York's Neighborhood Playhouse. Later in her life, Nureyev, Fonteyn, and Baryshnikov all came to dance with her.

Great for Dancers New to Graham Technique.

David Chase danced many principal roles with the Graham Company, and years later, thanks to Alonzo King, had the honor of performing Lucas Hoving's "Icarus " with Marina, Carmen, and Enrico, of Alonzo King LINES Ballet. David has taught in China, Europe, and the United States.

He is grateful always to Alonzo King, and thanks Kat Worthington for the opportunity to teach while she is wowing 'em in Europe!

Review of REVIVE 2009 -- Screendance

In January Alonzo King LINES Dance Center hosted REVIVE 2009 -- Screendance. This two-week workshop, with acclaimed filmmaker Talal Al-Muhanna and Kunst Stoff Artistic Director Yannis Adoniou, was designed to teach participants the art of integrating film-making and dance. Nineteen participants worked with San Francisco Art Institute professor, Kent Long, and SFAI students to produce eleven high-quality professional videos.

These films will be shown at the San Francisco Art Institute, 800 Chestnut Street on Wed, March 11th at 7:00 PM.
