Audition Information
We are currently accepting applications for the 2010-2011 LINES Ballet Training Program.
Audition for our summer program in one of the following ways:
• Visit San Francisco and attend class with our current LBTP students
• Send a video
• Attend the LINES Ballet Summer Program
Please note we do not offer an Audition Tour for the Training Program.
To Audition with the current LINES Ballet Training Program
We have an audition scheduled for Friday, May 14 from 11:15-1:15 with Maurya Kerr, former LINES company member. If you are unable to make this scheduled audition, please contact LINES Ballet School Manager Emily Withenbury to schedule an alternate audition.
We highly recommend auditioning in person. By taking class with current LBTP students, you have the opportunity to see the program structure first-hand, meet some of your future classmates, experience our world-class faculty in a classroom setting, tour the LINES Ballet School facility, and meet with School Director Karah Abiog.
All applicants will audition in a ballet class. Ballet is offered daily (Monday-Friday) within the LINES Ballet Training Program (times and faculty vary throughout the week). There is no dress code.
Applicants are encouraged to take more than one technique class during their stay in San Francisco. This is not an audition requirement; it simply gives you more information about the nature and structure of the LINES Ballet Training Program. Modern, Pointe, and Men’s Technique classes are offered several times a week.
To audition by video
We understand that it is not always possible to audition in person, and we encourage those who cannot travel to San Francisco to send a video.
Your LBTP audition video (DVD or VHS) should include:
- Minimal barre work (one side only)
- Center adagio
- A turning combination
- Grand allegro
- Pointe work (if applicable): a center combination or a classical variation
- A solo of your choice: The solo should highlight your movement quality and artistic choices and can be in any style you prefer, your own choreography or someone else’s.
The main focus of your video should be your solo work and your center work. Tapes should be no longer than 10 minutes in length.
To audition by participating in the LINES Ballet Summer Program
Each year, we accept quite a few students for the LINES Ballet Training Program from within our summer intensives. This is a wonderful opportunity for the dancer to experience the LINES Ballet philosophy in-depth and get to know the faculty and classroom structure on an intimate level.
However, because the Summer Program happens only a couple of months before the fall semester of the Training Program, this is not always the most-preferred audition method. If you are seriously considering the program in the spring (January-May), we encourage you to send a video or audition in San Francisco.
