Alonzo King LINES Ballet
World Premiere Collaboration with San Francisco Opera Adler Fellows
April 16 - 25, 2010

This spring program features a world premiere collaboration with the San Francisco Opera Adler Fellows. Set to some of the most ethereally beautiful vocal music ever composed by Handel, Brahms, Fauré, Strauss, Schubert, John Sheppard, and Reynaldo Hahn, is a collaboration between the extraordinary dancers of LINES Ballet and an extremely talented group of young opera singers from the San Francisco Opera's Adler Fellows program. An intimate resonance between song and movement unfolds onstage, as the breathtaking voices of the four singers-soprano, mezzo-soprano, counter-tenor, and baritone-rise in unison with the unique grace of the LINES Ballet dancers. Adler Fellows who will participate in the LINES Ballet collaboration include Sara Gartland, soprano; Maya Lahyani, mezzo-soprano; Ryan Belongie, counter tenor; Austin Kness, baritone; and coach-accompanist Allen Perriello. In Rasa, Alonzo King's dancers soar to new heights, performing to tabla master Zakir Hussain's score. At times romantic and thought-provoking, spiritual and physical, intimate and bold-Rasa connects audiences to a profound sense of shared humanity.
