We are thrilled to announce a generous matching grant from the Surdna Foundation in support of the LINES Ballet School. Thanks to this grant, and gifts from people like you, we hope to raise a total of $250,000 for scholarship and programmatic support for the LINES Ballet Summer Program for aspiring young dancers.
LINES Ballet provides arts education to hundreds of children annually, cultivating strong, well-trained artists who value artistic risk-taking and independent thinking. At LINES Ballet, our philosophy embraces the importance of individuality and self-expression over imitation; our students learn to balance excellent ballet technique with their own intelligence and artistry. Our students learn that becoming a dancer is about finding their unique voices--not about fitting an idealized body shape or skin color.
Our cornerstone program to accomplish this is LINES Ballet School, established in 2003. The LINES Ballet Summer Program, a hugely successful four-week intensive offered each summer, sits at the forefront of LINES Ballet School’s programming. We audition over 700 youths in nearly twenty cities nationwide to find 200 students to invite to San Francisco for the two intensives offered each summer. As our students say, the program has a life-altering impact on them--as people as well as artists.
Your new or increased gift to the LINES Ballet School campaign will be matched dollar for dollar by the Surdna Foundation to provide scholarship and programmatic support for the Summer Program. Thanks to contributions from people like you, many more young artists will be able to attend the LINES Ballet School. Dozens of accepted students are forced to turn down the opportunity to attend our Summer Program because of their financial situation. Your support today will provide scholarship funding for students in need--and provide resources to ensure the LINES Ballet Summer Program will remain one of the top dance education institutions in the nation.
